Overview

 

The Department of Economics of the University of Ioannina organizes the 3rd Summer School in Economics in Crete - Greece. The general objective of the Summer School is to provide a stimulating environment for young researchers who seek to obtain advanced training on important disciplines of economics and econometrics. Moreover, it offers the opportunity to all the participants, and especially the advanced doctoral students, to present their research and to interact with other students from all over the world, as well as with leading scholars of the academic profession.

 

The 3rd Summer School in Advanced Economics will take place from June 26, 2017 to July 1, 2017 at Iolida Beach Hotel in Chania - Crete. This year’s specialized topic will be “Meta-analysis / Meta-regression Analysis in Economics. Theoretical and Empirical Investigation” and we are honored to welcome Tom Stanley as the Distinguished Guest Professor. The School consists of both theoretical sessions (in the form of lectures) and practical sessions. The practical sessions take place in a computer lab. Their aim is to complement the lectures with empirical applications. The working language is English.

 

Tom Stanley is Professor of Economics and Business at Hendrix College – USA. He got his Ph.D from Purdue University. He joined the Hendrix Faculty in 1986. He teaches Econometrics, Economics Research, Meta-Analysis of Research, Statistics, History of Economic Thought, Survey of Economic Issues and Management Science. Over the last several years, he has specialized in meta-analysis and developed statistical methods for meta-regression analysis and for detecting and correcting publication selection bias. Professor Stanley is the convener of Meta-Analysis of Economics Research (MAER) Network (NET). MAER-Net is an international network of scholars committed to improving economic science through meta-analysis. The purpose of our network is to serve as a clearinghouse for research in meta-analysis and economics and to improve the communication among scholars in this rapidly growing field (see more https://www.hendrix.edu/maer-network/)

 

Tom Stanley is co-author of the book “Meta-Regression Analysis in Economics and Business, Oxford: Routledge, 2012” (with Hristos Doucouliagos) and has numerous publications in top international journals such as: Journal of Economic Perspectives, the Economic Journal, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Economic Surveys, Southern Economic Journal, British Journal of Industrial Relations (see more : https://www.hendrix.edu/maer-network/default.aspx?id=15184 )
