Corfu being an island can be reached either by plane or by boat.
Corfu Airport: Flying to Corfu, for most Europeans, is an easy flight lasting less than 3 hours. Corfu's International airport is located on the edge of Corfu (Kerkyra) town. During the summer months there are regular charter flights from most European countries to Corfu. Domestic flights (from Athens, Thessaloniki, etc.) operate all year round.
Corfu Port: Corfu's port is at the edge of Corfu (Kerkyra) town. Ferries from Greek mainland (Igoumenitsa and Patras) offer a regular service as well as ferries from Italy (Venice, Ancona and Brindisi). Corfu port is also a popular stop for visiting cruise ships. Corfu island is found in the Ioanian Sea off the west coast of mainland Greece. The island has a colourful history and has been ruled over by, most notably, the Venetians and the British who have both left their mark on the island. If you can spare some more time, there is much to see and do and a great number of beaches if its sunshine and swimming you're after.
Corfu Town is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is teeming with impressive architecture. Some of its most beautiful buildings include the Ionian Academy which was destroyed during World War II but lovingly recreated in all its former glory. The stunning Liston which edges the Esplanade are well known historical symbol of the town while close to the town, the Achilleion Palace is famous across the world.
