Agia Marina is a small, fully organized resort on the northern coast of Chania. It is found 9 Km west of the city of Chania. It is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Crete attracting both Greek and foreign tourists
The village was named after the church of Agia Marina which is located on the small hill of the old village. Agia Marina is built along a beautiful sandy beach and it is found on the main coastal road. The beach is sandy with crystal waters and towards the town of Platania you will come across many small bays where you can safely enjoy your swim. Agia Marina is set with lush vegetation, endless olive and orange groves, all kinds of fruits-bearing trees and limpid seashore.
Opposite of the beach of Agia Marina is the island “Agii Theodoroi” which is a protected natural place. Very close to the beach is the old village of Pano Agia Marina (upper Agia Marina) with lovely traditional Cretan houses and hospitable restaurants serving original Cretan dishes in a traditional atmosphere.
Agia Marina has everything all kind of accommodations from luxury quality hotels with excellent services, complexes to simple, family owned rooms for rent to simple rooms, lots of restaurants and many bars, clubs a big variety of night life. Lots of restaurants, Greek tavernas, bars, clubs and shops can be found in Agia Marina. This village has an interesting nightlife and a peaceful village atmosphere at the same time.
Transport in Agia Marina
The cost of a taxi transfer from Chania airport to Agia Marina is approximately 35 – 40 euros (single way). The duration of the transfer is about 25 minutes.
There is also a bus transfer from from Chania airport to Agia Marina via Chania town. The duration is about 40 – 45 minutes.
