Quality policy of the undergraduate program of studies
Τhe Department of Economics, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) of the University of Ioannina, has harmonized the quality policy of its undergraduate program of studies with the quality policy of the University of Ioannina.
The mission of the Department is twofold:
- cultivation and development of economic science
- training of new economists, capable of studying and applying economic theories.
Regarding the first objective, the Department updates its curriculum to account for the developments in economic science. It also aims at the production and dissemination of high quality scientific research through international conferences, seminars, participation of students and faculty members in international exchange programs and research programs, invitations to speakers from other universities and research centres in cutting-edge topics etc..
Regarding the second objective, the Department follows a systematic policy of extroversion and seamless integration into the labour market through international mobility programmes (ERASMUS +) and the acquisition of work experience and professional skills (internship programs). Information on these actions is posted on the website of the Department and communicated through relevant informative events.
In general, the Department aims at the comprehensive training of students and the development of their skills in order to meet the complex challenges of modern society and academic research.
The undergraduate program of studies includes modules in economic theory (microeconomics, macroeconomics, public economics, industrial organization, economic policy, economic growth, etc.), quantitative methods (mathematics, statistics, econometrics) and related subjects (accounting, finance, information technology) that broaden students’ education and promote interdisciplinarity. The teaching methods of the modules contribute to the familiarization of students in the use of new technologies and the development of skills required in the modern working and research environment.
The undergraduate program of studies is revised at regular intervals. These revisions take into account recent developments in economic science and often promote interdisciplinarity. At the same time, it monitors the changes in the curricula of other Economics departments both at home and abroad. Finally, the learning outcomes of the undergraduate program of studies are determined in accordance with the national and European framework of higher education qualifications.
The quality assurance procedures, which are recorded in the Quality Manual of the University of Ioannina, are applied accordingly by the Department. The Department’s quality assurance procedures are subject to review and update, which are carried out annually by the OMEA in collaboration with the MODIP of the University of Ioannina. These revisions are reflected in the annual internal evaluation report of the Department drawn up by the OMEA in accordance with the guidelines of MODIP.
The Department’s Quality Policy is communicated to all faculty members through its posting on the department’s website.
