Message from the Head of the Department
Welcome to the site of the Department of Economics, University of Ioannina. Here you can find useful information concerning the Department’s curricula and activities.
The Department was founded in 1996 according to the Presidential Decree 364 and it admitted its first students in 1998. The primary goal of the Department is to promote scientific knowledge, research and teaching in the area of economics.
The syllabus of the 4-year undergraduate program consists of a variety of core courses (such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, public economics, industrial organization, quantitative methods and accounting) and elective modules (e.g. international trade, finance, entrepreneurship, economic development and growth) which equip students with the necessary background to continue their studies at the postgraduate level and cope with the contemporary needs of the labor market. It further offers the possibility for an (optional) internship and ERASMUS+ exchange.
The postgraduate course of the Department is highly regarded and provides further specialization in economic analysis and policy. Finally, the Department runs a doctoral and post-doctoral program in Economics following the international standards for the conduct of academic research.
